چکیده

Head motion during brain CT studies can adversely affect the reconstructed image through distortion and other artifacts such as blurring and doubling, thereby losing substantial information. In this paper, we propose a method to detect and eliminate motion artifacts in Feldkamp-David-Kress (FDK) based three-dimensional (3D) cone-beam tomography. Motion detection is achieved by comparing the correlation coefficient between the adjacent x-ray projections and elimination is done by replacing the motion corrupted projections with their corresponding 180 o apart counterpart projections acquired during cone-beam circular scan. The method has been evaluated on 3D Sheep-Logan phantom. Computer simulation validates the motion detection and elimination mechanism.

Artifact reduction techniques in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging modality

Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was introduced and became more common based on its low cost, fast image procedure rate and low radiation dose compared to CT. This imaging modality improved diagnostic and treatment-planning procedures by providing three-dimensional information with greatly reduced level of radiation dose compared to 2D dental imaging modalitie...

3D Algebraic Iterative Reconstruction for Cone-Beam X-Ray Differential Phase-Contrast Computed Tomography

Due to the potential of compact imaging systems with magnified spatial resolution and contrast, cone-beam x-ray differential phase-contrast computed tomography (DPC-CT) has attracted significant interest. The current proposed FDK reconstruction algorithm with the Hilbert imaginary filter will induce severe cone-beam artifacts when the cone-beam angle becomes large. In this paper, we propose an ...

An Approximate Cone Beam Reconstruction Algorithm for Gantry-Tilted CT Using Tangential Filtering

FDK algorithm is a well-known 3D (three-dimensional) approximate algorithm for CT (computed tomography) image reconstruction and is also known to suffer from considerable artifacts when the scanning cone angle is large. Recently, it has been improved by performing the ramp filtering along the tangential direction of the X-ray source helix for dealing with the large cone angle problem. In this p...

Three Dimensional Cone-beam Reconstruction of Micro Computed Tomography in the Breast Specimen

Traditionally, the specimen obtained from a breast biopsy can only be examined by a microscope. Although the resolution of microscope is high, it can only examine one thin section at a time. Hence, the microcalcifications next to the observed section may be missed. To solve for this problem, we acquire the specimen by a 3D micro computed tomography (microCT) with electron bombarded charged coup...

Time-resolved cardiac interventional cone-beam CT reconstruction from fully truncated projections using the prior image constrained compressed sensing (PICCS) algorithm.

C-arm cone-beam CT could replace preoperative multi-detector CT scans in the cardiac interventional setting. However, cardiac gating results in view angle undersampling and the small size of the detector results in projection data truncation. These problems are incompatible with conventional tomographic reconstruction algorithms. In this paper, the prior image constrained compressed sensing (PI...
